Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier are teammates, which leads to an issue if the final Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner wants to remain heavyweight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t think the two will fight, but believes it’s possible.
“From what I understand, Cain and Cormier would fight each other, but I would be shocked,” said White during the UFC 156 media scrum. “They’re serious guys and like I always say it’s all about proving who the best is and that guy might be my friend.”
One name that has been discussed for Cormier is light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Velasquez currently has no opponent after winning the title again over Junior dos Santos. Cormier has yet to be stopped and makes his UFC debut against heavyweight Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7.
