Considered by some as the original “Face of Women’s MMA,” Gina Carano hasn’t fought since August 2009, but is yet to make any official announcement regarding her status in the sport.
“I haven’t fought in three years,” said Carano to SB Nation. “Right now, I’m focused on films, not fighting. You can’t say [I’m officially done]. I wake up every morning and I surprise myself every day.”
Just two weeks ago, Carano sparred and it felt good training for the love of the sport and not as a job.
During her MMA career, Carano won seven straight fights out of Strikeforce and EliteXC. Her last fight was a TKO loss to Strikeforce featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, with one second left in round one.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced that Carano would return in 2011, but nothing ever materialized.
In May, Carano will be featured in the upcoming movie Fast and Furious 6.
