Francisco Rivera’s placement as the opening fight on the Facebook portion of UFC 156 against Edwin Figueroa, he believes was due to his prior failed drug test. That came at UFC 149 and caused Rivera’s win to be overturned to a no contest.
“It probably was punishment, but hopefully they see this last fight and put me on the main card next,” said Rivera to MMA Fighting.
Rivera went on that the banned substance was a vitamin he purchased over the counter from GNC and thought was legal. He will be more careful about what he puts into his body now, with the help of his coach.
Before that no contest, Rivera had won his last three fights. Those wins took place after retiring, following a one fight UFC stint in 2011. Rivera is now 2-1 under the UFC name and Figueroa is 2-2 for the promotion.
The pair opened up UFC 156, which took place this past Saturday, February 2.
