Tyron Woodley didn’t waste time with Jay Hieron at UFC 156. 36 seconds into the fight and Woodley knocked out Hieron. The win was just the beginning for welterweight Woodley.
“I don’t want to do the pitter-patter,” said Woodley to MMA Fighting. “I want to be a top five guy. If I’m going to put it all on the line, then I’m going to risk it like everyone in this tough division. I want to be a top guy and closer to Georges St-Pierre.”
Woodley was coming in as one of the Strikeforce acquisitions. He was undefeated at eight wins, before he lost a fight for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight title over the summer. That was his final Strikeforce appearance. Since rejoining the UFC, Hieron has yet to find success going 0-2.
The two met on the preliminary card from UFC 156 this past Saturday.
