Heading into UFC 152, Vitor Belfort was considered a longshot to defeat Jon Jones for the light heavyweight championship. Early into round one and Belfort locked Jones in an armbar.
For a few seconds, it looked like Belfort was going to make Jones tap. Before that could happen, Jones got out of the hold and Belfort blamed it on him loosening the armbar. For the next four rounds, Jones would batter Belfort until he took his own submission win to retain his title.
“My category is [185 pounds], but I fight at [205 pounds],” said Belfort to TATAME. “I want a super fight with Jon Jones. This time, I want to get the other arm.”
Belfort called for a Jones rematch after he disposed of middleweight contender Michael Bisping within two rounds at UFC on FX. Currently, Belfort doesn’t have another fight scheduled and Jones returns at UFC 159 when he looks for a record tying fifth light heavyweight title defense.
