UFC president Dana White was vocal during the last season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), ranting about how he wasn’t pleased with the fighters. At the end of that 16th season, only four names were signed to a UFC contract. TUF 17, which is currently airing, has impressed White enough that he’s signing them all to a contract.
“This season is so f—— good and I was so happy with all the guys, I told them, ‘Every one of you guys are going to fight,” said White during the UFC 156 media scrum. “You’re going to get one more chance in the UFC. Every guy here gets another chance in the UFC.’ [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants to f—— kill me.”
White said that since TUF debuted in 2005, it has helped the UFC create more shows as they reach out to other countries. Since the show was created, the UFC has debuted in Australia, China, Canada, Germany, Ireland and a Japan return. White recently said that the promotion is working on a show for Russia.
The UFC has around 475 fighters and recently made room for a handful of Strikeforce names by releasing several contracted fighters.
TUF 17 airs on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on FX. This season is coached by Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. The finale takes place April 13 from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
