The contenders continue to be picked off, and Chris Weidman remains standing, waiting for his shot.
Saturday night, Rashad Evans was defeated by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar. While Evans competes at light heavyweight, it had been rumored that he could be next for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Instead, after seeing Michael Bisping get knocked out by Vitor Belfort last month, Weidman remains the lone viable contender it would seem – especially to “The All-American himself.”
“Lets do this Anderson!” Weidman posted just minutes after Evans’ loss.
Evans had stated he would think about cutting to middleweight, but was unsure how it would go. UFC president Dana White mentioned earlier this week that Evans and Weidman were both options for Silva, but “The Spider’s” management team has seemed uninterested in facing Weidman.
