Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva

The return of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem (36-11) is up next, as he faces Antonio Silva (17-4). Overeem is currently on a eight-fight win streak and is unbeaten in his last 12 fights overall. Herb Dean will be the third man inside the Octagon.

Round 1: Overeem taunting Silva as we start, and no touch of gloves – as expected. Overeem, one of the biggest heavyweights, looks small inside the Octagon with Silva. Overeem locks him up and forces him against the cage, throwing knees to the body. Jab-uppercut combo by Overeem, and he ties things up again. Big right lands by Overeem, and he follows up with a knee to the body. Clinch by Silva, and Overeem turns the tides and puts him back against the fence. Kick to the midsection lands by Silva, and Overeem follows with a knee to the body. Overeem with a huge kick to the lead leg, which earns a response. Counter right lands to finish the round for Overeem.

Round 2: Stiff jab to the chin lands by Overeem, as he counters another kick, grabs Silva and slams him to the mat. Overeem into side control 30 seconds into this round. Silva with three big elbows from the bottom, and Overeem postures up to hit the body. Overeem working the body and head with short, powerful punches. Overeem lands a big left-right combo just as it looked like the ref was going to stand them up. Under a minute to go, and Silva is allowed to stand up, and fires off a big right. Exchange of uppercuts, and Silva gets the clinch and lands a knee.

Round 3: Silva flashed his best stuff at the end of the round, and they stared each other down while walking back to the corners. Both men go for a takedown to start, and Silva has Overeem caught, unloading with big lefts and rights. Silva has Overeem out on his feet against the fence and this one is over. Silva is screaming at Overeem, who ate dozens of uppercuts. Herb Dean had to pull Silva away from a down-and-out Overeem.
