Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian McCall

We begin the main card in the flyweight division, as Joseph Benavidez (16-3) and Ian McCall (11-3-1) battle to possibly determine the next title contender. Both were defeated in the first-ever 125-pound tournament by champion Demetrious Johnson. The referee in charge will be Steve Mazzagatti.

Round 1: McCall tries for a takedown after eating a strike, but Benavidez defends. Benavidez with another shot off the break that catches the attention of McCall. McCall with a big kick to the body, and another. Good brawl as the two close the distance. McCall lands, but Benavidez with a counter that gets a smile from “Uncle Creepy.” Another low blow to McCall, and we have a slight break in the action for this one. Counter by Benavidez sends McCall back, and another shot by Benavidez with full-force behind it. McCall ducks and eats a knee, but just tells Benavidez to keep coming, which he does. Counter right-hand from Benavidez after eating an elbow. Small cut on Benavidez near his hairline, as McCall finishes strong.

Round 2: Benavidez working the body to start the round, cutting off the Octagon and looking to trap McCall. Overhand right thrown by Benavidez, who adds a right hook. The cut on his forehead is open again, with blood starting to pour down the middle of his face. Uppercut from Benavidez, who works for a takedown and forces McCall up against the fence. McCall with a straight right. McCall takes his back after Benavidez misses a takedown, and he starts throwing punches in bunches. McCall takes the back again with under a minute to go, losing that and damaging the head with more punches.

Round 3: Benavidez catches McCall, but is unable to follow up with anything of significance. Exchange of kicks, and McCall winds up on the ground. Benavidez exits the clinch with another series of jabs. McCall with a takedown, but is unable to do any damage, as Benavidez gets back to his feet quickly. Two minutes remain, and a quick kick to the body by Benavidez connects. Cut is wide open now on Benavidez, as he wipes the blood away. Another kick to the liver lands. McCall with a right to the body, and a combo from Benavidez, who adds a kick to the body.
