Dana White Open To Ronda Rousey – Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos In Catchweight Bout

Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos continues to taunt UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey for a fight. Since the two are at odds as neither wants to change weight classes, the possibility of a catchweight meeting remains open. UFC president Dana White wasn’t resisting the idea.

“If that’s what [Santos] is willing to do is go to 140, let’s let Ronda defend her title a few times and see if Ronda wants to go to 140,” said White during the UFC 156 media scrum. “If I know Ronda, she probably would anyway, so let’s see what happens. But if [Santos] wants to fight for a title and have a title fight, she has to go to 135 pounds.”

White referred to the possible matchup as a fan fight as everyone wants to see it, though it doesn’t make sense.

Santos, who is fresh off a suspension for steroids, challenged Rousey earlier in the week saying she’d fight her with one hand tied behind her back. There has been debate if Santos can safely make the cut to bantamweight.

Rousey was announced as the first female fighter to sign with the UFC after her Strikeforce title was promoted to the UFC. She is 6-0, with an overall total of nine fights to her name. She has won all in round one by armbar.

“Listen, ‘Cyborg’ either wants to come in and fight for the title and get a big payday and fight the champion or she doesn’t,” said White.

Rousey headlines UFC 157 later this month on February 23. She meets former Strikeforce veteran Liz Carmouche from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
