Jake Butler Puts Ivy League Degree Aside In MMA Debut

Jake Butler had a real estate job in New York City and a comfortable amount of money to match. While the former Princeton University wrestler could have decided to keep his office job, he gave it up for a chance in MMA.

“I know a lot of people might view it as a waste of my education and my degree, but there’s just such a small window of opportunity to pursue this, and it’s really my passion,” said Butler to MMA Junkie. “It would be foolish not to try. My old job, my degree, I can always go back to that. This is something I have to do now.”

The office job was a sharp contrast to his time as a wrestler. When Butler was a wrestler, his life revolved around training and competition. Butler couldn’t escape the itch and decided to become a fighter. He makes his debut tomorrow for ONE FC: Return of Warriors against Antoni Romulo. They open the 10 fight card.

The show comes from the Putra Indoor Arena in Malaysia and can be seen at for $9.99 with a start time of 6 a.m. ET. Butler-Romulo airs for free on their preliminary card.
