Tyron Woodley had been with Strikeforce for a majority of his career. With days until his UFC debut, Woodley is looking to make an impact in an introduction that he believes is past due.
“I think it’s been long overdue,” said Woodley on SHERDOG. “I’m a very patient individual, but sitting around and waiting is kind of nerve wracking sometimes.”
It’ll be Woodley vs. Jay Hieron this weekend at UFC 156 on the preliminary card.
Woodley had eight straight wins out of Strikeforce. His perfect record was ended by Nate Marquardt over the summer to crown a new middleweight champion. Hieron is a former Bellator tournament winner, who lost a decision in his UFC on FX debut.
A win for Woodley and he thinks he’s in title contention.
“I’m not fighting somebody at the bottom of the food chain and have to chop the ladder down all the way from the bottom,” said Woodley.
UFC 156 takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center this Saturday, February 2.
