Michael Chandler hasn’t heard anything about a possible Bellator lightweight championship rematch with Eddie Alvarez. It was last week that a judge denied Alvarez an injunction to fight at UFC 159. Bellator said Alvarez would get a return title fight if he signed with them.
“I have not talked to anyone from Bellator or Spike,” said Chandler to MMA Weekly. “I’ve talked to my management numerous times and they haven’t talked to anyone at Spike or Bellator about that.”
It was Chandler who ended Alvarez’s title run in 2011. Alvarez chose not to rejoin the tournament as he finished his last two contracted fights with first round wins. Chandler has two wins since taking the title, with the most recent being in the main event of Bellator 85. That was the first show to air on Spike TV.
The winner between Marcin Held and Dave Jansen gets the next championship shot.
