Nick Diaz comes back from his second marijuana suspension as an instant No. 1 contender. For Jon Fitch, he understands that the fight would draw major money into the UFC.
“That’s the kind of thing I’ve learned to accept over time,” said Fitch to TATAME. “The fight itself inside the Octagon is a sport, but everything that happens beyond that is decided by money. They felt it would make more money with these two fighters.”
Diaz meets George St-Pierre for the welterweight championship at UFC 158. Some thought the fight was overdue and Diaz should have met the champion before Carlos Condit. The encounter occurs from St-Pierre’s home country of Canada.
Fitch returns this Saturday at UFC 156 on February 2. In the last two years, Fitch is 1-1 and coming in on a win. Demian Maia has a pair of first round stoppages last year. They fight on the main card from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
