Eric Kelly’s road to an MMA career was far from easy. After spending his teen years being abused by his father, Kelly spent time taking on different occupations. One of those included being a bodyguard for a Filipino businessman. After being shot at on two occasions, Kelly decided he needed a change in life and a way of taking his anger out. In stepped MMA.
“I’m not angry with my dad,” said Kelly to MMA Fighting. “For me, I must thank him. He trained me how to be tough. Now, I’m not angry. I just reverse the psychology that he helped me be tough. He trained my body to become stronger. I’m not angry with him. He’s still he’s my dad. Until now, I’m using that principle to make me strong and to take care of the pain.”
In a few days, Kelly looks to win the ONE FC featherweight championship when he meets Honorio Banario. Kelly, who is undefeated with nine wins, has made three appearances out of ONE FC. He stopped two of those fights. Banario is 1-1 for the promotion and lost in his debut for them.
Kelly vs. Banario headlines ONE FC: Return of Warriors on February 2. The event comes from the Putra Indoor Stadium in Malaysia and can be streamed live on the official website of ONE FC.
