UFC president Dana White has talked about continuing the global expansion of his promotion for the past few years. Now, it appears that White is looking to move into Russia this year.
“I think what’s going to go on in Russia is we’ll put on a live event there,” said White, following a recent post-fight press conference. “We’ll do a live event in Russia, and just like every other event we’ve done, you do the live event and it explodes.”
White added that plans to bring The Ultimate Fighter to the country are also in the works. Current undefeated fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov would be a likely choice for the first Russian event, as he hails from the country.
“Mixed martial arts is already big over there,” White said. “Sambo is big over there. We’ll see where the market goes (after a live event takes place).”
