Clay Guida Missed The Taste Of Victory

Clay Guida (30-13) needed to get back in the win column after two straight losses as a lightweight and did just that after dropping to featherweight. He took a split-decision win over Hatsu Hioki (26-6-2) on the preliminary card of UFC on FOX.

“It’s a sweet victory and feels good,” said Guida on MMA Fighting. “In June it would have been two years [since my last victory]. You don’t ever forget what victory tastes like, but it had been awhile. It was good to do it in front of my home crowd. I haven’t fought in Illinois is almost six or seven years, since I joined the UFC.”

With the debut in a new division, Guida hopes to wipe the slate clean and prove he belongs on the UFC roster.

The former Strikeforce lightweight champion dropped a title eliminator in late 2011 and then a split-decision to Gray Maynard over the summer, in a fight that he was criticized for his lack of offense.

Guida doesn’t know he fights next, but first has to heel a nasty swollen lump under his eye.
