Old Ryan Bader Wouldn’t Have Gone For The Submission

Ryan Bader (15-3) isn’t known for his submission ability, but after his UFC on FOX win over Vladimir Matyushenko (26-7) that could change. 50 seconds into the fight and Bader was able to lock in a guillotine choke, which earned him the fastest UFC light heavyweight submission win in the promotion’s history.

“I don’t have many [submissions],” said Bader on MMA Fighting. “I wouldn’t have wanted to be on my back in the past. It’s definitely the evolution of me as a fighter.”

He also took Submission of the Night honors, which earned him an extra $50,000.

Of Bader’s 15 career wins, only two have come by submission. Those were out of XCC and Proving Grounds over five years ago. All of Bader’s career losses have come from former champions in Jon Jones, Tito Ortiz and Lyoto Machida.

There is no date for Bader’s return and he is currently waiting for the arrival of his new baby, due at the end of March.
