Glover Teixeira hasn’t been pushed to the limits too many times in his MMA career, as the Brazilian sports an impressive 20-2 record. Saturday night, however, he went the full 15 minutes with former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
In the end, Teixeira had done more than enough to secure the decision victory, picking up his 18th consecutive win at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Dodson. The Brazilian, however, thought he had Jackson finished midway through the fight.
“No disrespect to Quinton, but I wanted to go for the knockout and finish him,” said Teixeira, during the Fuel TV post-fight show. “He is tough, man. I knew he was tough, but he took some good shots. He hits hard too, so I took my time. I swear I hurt him in the second round and I thought it was going to be a knockout.”
Teixeira has now defeated Kyle Kingsbury, Fabio Maldonado and Jackson since entering the UFC, but this latest victory will be the one that vaults him up the rankings the most.
