John Dodson has heard all the talk about the illegal knee Demetrious Johnson landed on him Saturday night during their UFC flyweight title match at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Dodson.
Dodson, however, sees no reason to believe the strike had anything to do with the final outcome, which saw Johnson get his hand raised as the winner. Had Johnson been deducted a point for the illegal shot, the fight would have ended in a majority draw.
“I was playing that game – I was trying to make sure that I didn’t get kneed in the face and I got kneed,” said Dodson, during the post-fight show on Fuel TV. “It’s okay. I don’t mind that it happened because we were changing levels so quickly. It’s okay. I’m fine with it.”
The former winner of The Ultimate Fighter floored “Mighty Mouse” early in the bout, but was unable to keep up the same energy and offensive attack in the final two rounds.
“It’s a learning experience,” Dodson said. “I had fun in that whole fight. I might have lost it, but I’ll learn a lot from this and I’m gonna come back stronger and win that belt.”
