WWE champion CM Punk has made it no secret that he’s a fan of MMA and will be watching when the UFC returns to Canada and offered some picks for the main card. At UFC 158, the main event has Georges St-Pierre (23-2) defending his welterweight championship against Nick Diaz.
“I’m looking forward to GSP [and] Nick Diaz,” said Punk on MMA Fighting. “Can Diaz hang with him? Sure. Can he beat him? I don’t know. I definitely think he can hang. I always think GSP’s problem is—when’s the last time he finished a guy? That was a long time ago.”
St-Pierre hasn’t finished a fight since 2009, when BJ Penn’s corner stopped the bout as the Hawaiian couldn’t continue for the final round.
The co-main event features a rematch between Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald. Condit won the first meeting after MacDonald dominated for the first two rounds. After MacDonald recently defeated Penn, he called Condit out for a rematch to avenge his only loss.
“I’m a Carlos Condit fan,” said Punk. “That’s why I’m looking forward to that PPV, too. I think Rory MacDonald’s nuts. He’s got this personal beef with Condit just because he beat him.”
UFC 158 comes from the Bell Centre on March 16 in Canada and airs on PPV.
