Erik Koch had high hopes for 2012, as he was set to challenge Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight championship. After nine months of training, Koch went down with an injury and his UFC 149 meeting with Aldo was pushed to UFC 153.
“It was one of the biggest blows when I got injured, especially a knee injury,” said Koch to MMA Mania. “That always scares a fight fighter. Me, as a fighter, especially with how explosive I am, that scared the heck out of me.”
That fight was rescheduled for UFC 153, but this time Aldo fell pray to an injury a month before the contest and the entire matchup was scratched.
After 15 months away, Koch retuned last night at UFC on FOX 6, but lost in round two against Ricardo Lamas via TKO.
Aldo makes his next title defense against Frankie Edgar at UFC 156. That comes from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV next Saturday.
