UFC president Dana White confirmed that Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez is still on schedule for April in a battle for the UFC lightweight title.
However, White went ahead and made it known that Anthony Pettis has positioned himself for the winner later in 2013, saying, “No doubt,” when asked if Pettis was the next contender.
Henderson, the current UFC lightweight champion, has not lost since falling to Pettis in the final WEC bout. He will put his belt on the line against Melendez, who is coming over from Strikeforce.
Pettis made a statement on Saturday at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Dodson by defeating Donald Cerrone. It was his first fight since early 2012 when he topped Joe Lauzon.
Henderson, who is currently traveling after doing interviews and other media in Asia, posted on Twitter, “I got my next dance partner already on April 20th but you guys should know I’m down for anybody after that…not looking ahead but ;-D!!!!!!”
