Chael Sonnen (27-12-1) is a master at pushing fighters’ last nerve by getting into their head through his verbal comments. Nobody is safe from Sonnen’s onslaught, including Lance Armstrong. Earlier in the month, Armstrong admitted that he cheated by using PEDs to win his record seven Tour de France titles. Sonnen recalled a conversation he had with Armstrong, which was far from friendly.
“He threatened to sue me so I threatened to kick his a– and the whole thing went away,” said Sonnen on The Jim Rome Show. “Look, I get it and I’m kidding but Lance did do some bad stuff and he was a jerk about it. Yeah, he hit me up with the whole ‘I’m gonna sue you’ routine and I hit him back with the whole ‘I’ll kick you’re a–‘ routine. That’s it, that’s where it ended. I thought he was going to go through with the lawsuit but he did not.”
It wouldn’t have been the first time Sonnen found himself in trouble with the law. In 2011, he pled guilty to money laundering charges stemming from mortgage fraud. In return for cooperating with the investigation, Sonnen was fined $10,000 and sentenced to two years of probation.
Sonnen is currently coaching opposite Jon Jones (17-1) on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter. They will meet for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 159, on April 27, from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
