Just a few months ago, the UFC was having trouble finding a valuable opponent for Jon Jones (17-1) and his light heavyweight title. Now the division has several names who are vying for a shot at the champion. Two of those are Dan Henderson (29-8) and Daniel Cormier (11-0). UFC president Dana White said that Henderson gets a title shot before Cormier.
“I think Dan Henderson, I think he wants the Jon Jones fight,” said White during the UFC 158 press conference media scrum. “Actually, yeah [he's ahead of Cormier]. “He’ll fight before Cormier, so yeah, he would be.”
It was supposed to be Henderson and Jones at UFC 151 before an injury to the knee of the former PRIDE champion removed him from the card and the show was completely cancelled. Cormier recently joined the UFC ranks, after being undefeated out of Strikeforce before their closure this month.
Henderson meets Lyoto Machida (18-3) at UFC 157 on February 23 and Cormier takes on Frank Mir (16-6) at UFC on FOX 7 on April 20. Jones defends his title next against Chael Sonnen (27-12-1) at UFC 159.
