Nutritionist Mike Dolce hasn’t started working with Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (8-1-1 NC) to make the drop to 135 pounds, but is confident that she can do it in a healthy way. Dolce went on that Santos, who currently competes at 145 pounds, is in the wrong weight class and it’s slowing her down.
“She’ll be 135 pounds, it will be the healthiest she’s been her entire career and it will be the best performance of her entire career or I would not have taken the job,” said Dolce on MMA Weekly. “I can’t risk having an athlete underperform as a result of a weight cut. I would never jeopardize an athlete’s health.”
After Santos’ last fight, it was revealed she had steroids in her system. As a result, she was suspended for a year. That suspension has since ended.
Santos’ manager Tito Ortiz has finally opened up to his client making the weight cut after UFC president Dana White said it was the only way she would get a chance to meet their women’s champion Ronda Rousey. Ortiz continued that Santos might take a warm-up fight since she’s been away for so long.
Santos is currently on vacation in Brazil with no timeframe for when she might return to action.
