Ben Saunders Doesn’t Think Skills Are Necessary To Win Tournament Style

Ben Saunders (14-5-2) has had two attempts to win the Bellator welterweight tournament, but has been knocked out in the semifinals and finals. As he prepares for his third attempt, he knows skill doesn’t always matter as anything can happen in a fight.

“I’m trying to make it a show like always,” said Saunders on MMA Junkie Radio. “But I could go out there, knock the dude out in the first minute, but break my foot on his face doing so. That’s where the luck could play a factor, no matter what the skill. Above everything, it’s mentally grueling, and it’s a mind game.”

Later in the week, Saunders meets Adzisto (18-9). Saunders is a UFC veteran, but was released after going 1-3 in his last outings for the promotion. He signed with Bellator six months later. Adzisto will make his Bellator debut and ended last year going 1-1.

Bellator 86 airs on Spike TV from the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, OK with a start time of 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary fights can be seen at beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
