The Ultimate Fighter 17 Recap: Fights, Team Selections Highlight Episode

The Ultimate Fighter returned Tuesday for a 17th season, as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and contender Chael Sonnen serve as coaches. The debut episode featured 14 fights to gain entrance into the house, with each coach selecting seven fighters to train over the next several weeks.

Sonnen won the coin toss and elected to make the first pick, grabbing Luke Barnatt. Barnatt scored a decision victory over Nicholas Kohring in the elimination round.

Joining Team Sonnen along with Barnatt were Uriah Hall, Zak Cummings, Tor Troeng, Jimmy Quinlan, Kevin Casey and Kelvin Gastelum.

Team Jones will be represented by Clint Hester, Josh Samman, Bubba McDaniel, Gilbert Smith, Collin Hart, Adam Cella and Dylan Andrews. Jones also was given first fight selection, going with Smith to face Barnatt.

Cella, Casey, Troeng, Smith and Hart all earned submission victories, while Cummings, McDaniel, Samman and Quinlan scored knockout wins.
