The preliminary card of UFC on FX 7 saw a controversial ending to the Pedro Nobre vs. Yuri Alcantara bout, which left the fight to be called a no contest.
Referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight in round one due to illegal strikes to the back of the head of Nobre. On several replays, it appeared that all the shots were legal. Nobre appeared unable to continue and the fight was called off.
UFC president Dana White paid Alcantara his win bonus and called Nobre “an award-winning actor” following the meeting.
The day after the fight, Nobre was seen with a neck brace at a local hospital. Nobre’s coach Murilo Bustamante issued a statement about the severity of the injury.
“Thank God all hospital exams have shown no severe trauma and no fractures to the head or cervical spine, despite persisting injury symptoms,” said Bustamante. “Now we have to concern ourselves with his recovery, which is the most important thing.”
Bustamante went on that Nobre didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
