Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans was asked numerous times about a potential move to middleweight during a conference call on Monday. Evans will return to action February 2 to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar.
While Evans discussed in-depth what it would take to make the transition to 185 pounds, he sounded much more interested in the possibilities of competing at 195 if the UFC were to create the division.
“I would be a proponent of (195),” Evans said. “It would be pretty good. It would be competitive. There are a lot of guys with body types like mine who are kind of in between. I am not a big 205-pounder, and 185 would be just too hard of a cut. I think a 195-pound weight class would be a great idea.”
UFC president Dana White has stated in the past there are no plans for a super heavyweight division or other ones in the immediate future after adding flyweights and a female weight class.
