Chris Weidman spent the better part of 2012 pushing for a title match with Anderson Silva at middleweight. However, an injury kept Weidman from finishing out the year in action, and also dropped him down the rankings in the eyes of many.
Well, Saturday night, Weidman moved back up a bit, as Michael Bisping was stopped by Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping. “The Count” had been told he would receive a title fight with a victory.
Weidman took to Twitter just minutes after the bout, posting, “Hmmm..interesting.” No return date for Weidman to compete has been made, but Silva is now without a challenger for his belt.
“I’ll be back in summer and that’s when Anderson wanted to fight,” Weidman later posted. “Coincidence? I think not:)”
