Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort appears set on returning to 205 pounds after knocking Michael Bisping from the middleweight contender ranks Saturday night at UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping.
With one swift kick to the head, Belfort ended Bisping’s title aspirations, scoring a second round TKO much to the delight of the Brazilian crowd.
Belfort didn’t take the chance to try and push for a rematch with Anderson Silva afterwards. Instead, “The Phenom” made a plea to UFC bosses Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta to remove Chael Sonnen from an upcoming title match with Jon Jones.
“Let me fight Jon Jones,” Belfort screamed. “Get the punk Chael Sonnen out. Go home. Let me fight and see who the real champion is.”
Belfort faced Jones last year, falling via fourth round submission to “Bones.” He did have a deep submission of his own locked in early in the fight, but Jones fought out and thrived.
On his own Twitter account after the bout, Jones posted, “Lol.” Whether that was in reference to Belfort’s call-out or not, he did not say.
