Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will make his Bellator MMA debut Thursday night at Bellator 86. Lawal will be facing Przemyslaw Mysiala in an opening round tournament contest.
Lawal (8-1) competed for just over two years in Strikeforce, but was released early last year following a failed post-fight drug test and verbal outburst against the Nevada Athletic Commission. He had kind words for Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker during a conference call Friday, as the promotion closed up shop this month.
“Strikeforce is dead and Bellator is rising,” Lawal said. “It is what it is, man.”
Lawal added that Coker was “good people to work for and good to deal with.” It is unknown what the promoter will do now that his organization has folded.
As for Lawal, he is ready to finally get back inside the cage, saying, “I’m very excited. It’s time to do my thing.”
