Bellator 85 averaged 938,000 viewers, breaking the previous record from Bellator 44 which maxed out at 325,000 viewers.
It was the debut of Season 8 for the promotion and the first time they aired live fights on their new network, Spike TV. The show aired yesterday, January 17, from the Bren Center in Irvine, CA.
The ratings peaked with 1.1 million viewers in the opening fight, which saw featherweight champion Pat Curran defeating Patricio “Pitbull” Freire via split-decision. The main event averaged 950,000 viewers and saw Michael Chandler defend his lightweight title over Rick Hawn with a second round submission.
Spike TV President Kevin Kay labeled the rating as “fantastic.”
The Season 7 of Bellator averaged 162,000 viewers.
