Josh Barnett cleared up any rumors of a signed contract with the UFC Thursday, posting on Twitter that he has not made any deal to re-join the promotion. Barnett’s profile appeared on the UFC’s official website early in the day.
“Beyond my profile being up on UFC.com I am not signed to the UFC,” Barnett wrote. “Sorry you guys all got your hopes up.”
Barnett made light of the profile, posting, “Breaking news! I am in the UFC,” while a minute later adding, “Website!” to his account.
Barnett, 31-6, last competed inside the Octagon in 2002 when he won the UFC heavyweight title over Randy Couture. He left the promotion shortly after due to a failed post-fight drug test and contract issues.
