Chael Sonnen may do a little more talking outside the Octagon than Randy Couture did, but the former two-time UFC middleweight contender still idolizes “The Natural.”
Sonnen, along with Rashad Evans, Kenny Florian, Brian Stann and Jay Glazer return this Friday night for another edition of UFC Roundtable: The Analysts. The show airs at 10 p.m. ET on Fuel TV.
Sonnen, who will face Jon Jones later this year for the UFC light heavyweight title, named Couture as his favorite fighter during the episode. Couture, a UFC Hall of Famer, wore both the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles.
“Randy Couture, not just to watch, but as a person,” Sonnen said. “Let’s not forget he started his career at 34 years old and I think that’s very interesting. He also started in the tournament days (with) multiple fights in one night. Not a whole lot of guys from that generation were able to transform and keep up with the new rules, the new systems, the weight classes that were implemented. He did, and he did it in multiple weight classes.”
Sonnen will also be the next coach of The Ultimate Fighter, which begins a 17th season on January 22. He will compete opposite Jones on the reality show.
