Bellator’s Spike TV Debut Just Sinking In For Rick Hawn

Bellator’s return tomorrow to TV sees Rick Hawn (14-1) in the main event. Hawn will be looking to capture the lightweight championship from Michael Chandler (10-0). With the event just over 24 hours away from starting, Hawn is starting to realize how big of a moment it is for Bellator.

“I’m starting to feel all the hype,” said Hawn on MMA Junkie Radio. “I went to the Bellator offices and there’s a lot of publicity going into this.”

Hawn earned the title shot when he won the Season 6 tournament after losing in the Season 4 one the year prior. Chandler has fought once since winning the belt in a non-title fight. He defeated Akihiro Gono 56 seconds in round one.

“I’m happy to be the main event,” said Hawn. “We’re worthy of that. I don’t want to let the emotions get too much of me, but there’s a lot of excitement built around this fight.”

When they meet in the main event of Bellator 85 it will be a new chapter for the promotion as they debut on Spike TV. The UFC had previously aired on that network for several years. The show starts at 10 p.m. ET with preliminary fights streaming at

Other action on the card has Pat Curran defending his featherweight championship against Patricio Freire and the opening rounds of the light heavyweight tournament.
