Patricio Freire Upset That His Title Fight With Pat Curran Took Over 18 Months To Happen

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (17-1) thinks Pat Curran (17-4) was running scared and that was one reason tomorrow’s title fight took so long to make happen. The other reason was a hand injury sustained by Freire.

“He went on vacation,” said Freire to MMA Junkie. “We wanted him to get his medicals so we could schedule our fight, but he kept saying he was on vacation and couldn’t do an exam and it took him 40 days to do it. I was bothered.”

After an unsuccessful attempt to win Bellator’s Season 2 featherweight tournament, Freire went on to win Season 4 in the middle of 2011. He has not competed since. Curran has not returned to the promotion since he won the featherweight title at Bellator 60 in March 2012.

The two meet at Bellator 85 from the Bren Events Center in Irvine, CA on the main card. It kicks off Season 8 for the promotion and is their debut on Spike TV. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET and will stream the preliminary fights.
