After floating between three different weight classes, Roger Gracie (6-1) is ready to settle down as a middleweight. Prior to his decision, Gracie dabbled in the light heavyweight and heavyweight division.
“I can exchange more strength with people at that weight,” said Gracie to MMA Fighting. “Cutting weight is never easy, but this time was much easier than last time. As long as I can cut the weight, I’ll be fine.”
Gracie began his career as a heavyweight going 2-0 before making the drop when he joined Strikeforce. As a light heavyweight, he took two wins until he suffered his only loss to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. He would return to Strikeforce and finish his stay with them as a middleweight. He is undefeated as a middleweight going at 2-0.
At the final Strikeforce event, Gracie earned a second round submission over Anthony Smith (17-9). With the exception of his middleweight debut, all of his other fights have ended within two rounds.
It was recently announced that Gracie would be one of several Strikeforce names to sign with the UFC.
