UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has already defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort in his career. Now, Jones will look to add one more name to his resume when he faces Chael Sonnen at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen.
The event takes place April 27 from Newark, New Jersey and the site of Jones’ title-winning victory over Rua. Jones will also be returning home, as he is a native of nearby New York.
“The rumors are true, I am the best,” Jones said. “On Apri 27, Chael will be put through the test. When it’s all said and done, he’ll be just like the rest.”
Jones and Sonnen filmed the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter late in 2012. The series returns to FX on January 22.
“Jon Jones has destroyed all the top guys in the light heavyweight division,” said UFC president Dana White. “He has defended the title four times and is one of the pound-for-pound best in the world.”
With a victory over Sonnen, Jones would tie Tito Ortiz for the most successful title defenses of the 205-pound belt in UFC history.
