Isaac Vallie-Flagg will enter the UFC on an 11-fight unbeaten streak, including a recent win over Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante. However, he will not be given a pushover in his debut, as Vallie-Flagg meets Yves Edwards at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar.
The bout will be part of the prelims for the February 2 card from Las Vegas.
Vallie-Flagg (13-3-1) has not lost since a 2007 defeat to Rudy Bears via submission. During his recent run, he owns 10 victories and one draw with Ken Jackson in 2010. The Strikeforce veteran feels the win over Cavalcante garnered him such a stiff opponent in the UFC.
“I think the fight against ‘JZ’ did a lot for my career and started to get me looked at not only now, but it was getting me talked about for title shots in Strikeforce,” said Vallie-Flagg, during a recent interview with Full Contact Fighter. “It was by far the biggest win of my career.”
In Edwards, Vallie-Flagg will be meeting a veteran of 61 MMA fights – 42 of which have been victories. He said of Edwards, “I was thinking that I would get a tough guy right off the bat. I got one of the tougher dudes I can think of and someone who I’m a real fan of.”
Vallie-Flagg added that he is “trying to not make too big a deal of (the fight), because it’s just another fight, but I know it’s a big opportunity.”
