Patricio “Pitbull” Freire Says Bellator Made Him A Star

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (17-4) is thankful to Bellator for all they have done for him. He was signed in 2010 and jumped right into their featherweight tournament.

“I can pay my bills,” said Freire to MMA Junkie. “I can help my family.” I have money for myself and I can help those people close to me.”

Freire made it to the finals of the Season 2 tournament before losing a split decision to Joe Warren (8-3). He returned to win the Season 4 tournament. By doing so, he took home the $100,000 grand prize and earned a future shot at the featherweight championship.

Now, when Freire walks around he says fans notice him from his appearance in the tournaments.

Freire meets titleholder Pat Curran (17-4) this Thursday at Bellator 85 on January 17 from the Bren Center in Irvine, CA. The show takes place at 10 p.m. and will be the first time Bellator airs live on their new home Spike TV.

The fight was originally set for August, before Curran went down with a broken orbital bone during training.
