Daniel Cormier Plans To Defeat Frank Mir, Then Top Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier has his 2013 planned out following a victory over Dion Staring Saturday night at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine. The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion will now head to the UFC with a perfect 11-0 record.

“April 20, on Fox, I signed my UFC contract; Frank Mir, you and met, let’s do it,” Cormier said.

Cormier followed up when asked about a potential drop to 205 pounds to face Jon Jones by saying, “Jon Jones will defend his title in April, and I will kick his (expletive) in the fall.”

Cormier has discussed moving to light heavyweight after seeing his training partner, Cain Velasquez, capture the UFC heavyweight title. He has been calling for a match with Jones for the past few months. “Bones” defends his title against Chael Sonnen in the spring.

“DC” controlled Staring, who did survive the first round, by taking him down at will and landing 76 of 127 strikes. He also landed 42 power strikes during the round-plus of action.
