Bellator planned to kick off their debut on Spike TV with a new initiative that allowed fans to vote for the first fight at Bellator 85. They called it “Vote for the Fight” and featured four possible names. After the voting concluded, Paul Daley and War Machine were announced to meet in welterweight action. War Machine went down with an injury that postponed the fight and then Daley had visa problems, making him unable to travel to the U.S. Both were removed from the card.
In was later revealed that War Machine suffered tears in his knee and Daley couldn’t travel overseas due to a bar fight that caused the visa issues.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney hopes that the two can still meet sometime in the fall of 2013.
“If that rehab can happen with John [War Machine] and Paul doesn’t have any kind of delay getting a visa, that would be awesome,” said Rebney to MMA Weekly Radio.
Daley returns for Cage Contenders in Ireland on February 23 and has a court appearance set for April to work out his visa problems. War Machine’s return from injury is not known.
Bellator returns to TV for the first time in 2013 on January 17. They make their debut on their new home Spike TV for Bellator 85, which airs at 10 p.m.
