Jon Jones Claims Fighter Of Year At World MMA Awards

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones once again took home the award for fighter of the year, securing the hardware during Friday night’s 2012 World MMA Awards. “Bones” beat out Daniel Cormier, Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz and Ronda Rousey for the Charles “Mask” Lewis Fighter of the Year award.

Other notable winners were UFC president Dana White for Leading Man of the Year, Jamie Varner and Joe Lauzon from UFC on Fox 4 for Fight of the Year, Chris Weidman for Breakthrough Fighter of the Year, and Edson Barboza for Knockout of the Year.

Frank Mir earned Submission of the Year and Comeback of the Year for his victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, while Rafael Cordeiro was named Shawn Tompkins Coach of the Year. Michael Bisping earned International Fighter of the Year, Herb Dean was voted Referee of the Year, Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu picked up Gym of the Year, and the UFC was named Promotion of the Year.

Complete results can be found on the Fighters Only website. Winners were based on fan voting, and the nominees were selected from September 2011 through September 2012.

The program will air on Fox Sports Net January 20 at 9 p.m. ET, with replays set for Fuel TV, as well. Chael Sonnen was the co-host once again with Molly Qerim.
