New UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been on a whirlwind media tour since defeating Junior dos Santos. However, come the beginning of February, Velasquez will be locked in on Las Vegas and the Alistair Overeem-Antonio Silva match.
Overeem and Silva will collide on February 2 at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar. The winner is expected to become the No. 1 contender to the belt.
Velasquez has already defeated Silva, scoring a TKO victory over him to secure his rematch with dos Santos. So, is he hoping for a potential meeting with Overeem, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion?
“I just want to keep fighting the best guys, and (Overeem’s) been that person for a while,” said Velasquez, in a recent interview with ESPNChicago.com. “His stand-up is really good. Good knees, big guy, strong guy.”
Velasquez added he will be looking to figure out a game plan against Overeem when he meets Silva, saying that he wants to “see what I can take from the fight. I’ll watch his past fights, make up a good game plan from there. We’ll see what happens in the fight; he has to win (first).”
