Rousimar Palhares and Joey Beltran have each been suspended for failed post-fight drug tests from December’s UFC on FX: Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson event in Australia. The MMA Report first reported the suspensions following a release by the UFC.
“Rousimar Palhares tested positive for elevated testosterone and Joey Beltran tested positive for nandrolone, following their respective bouts at UFC on FX 6 in Australia,” the release stated. “The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents. Both athletes have agreed to serve a nine-month suspension retroactive to December 14.”
The release also indicated that both fighters must pass drug tests upon completion of the suspensions before either are given clearance to fight again. This is the first positive drug test for both Palhares and Beltran.
Palhares lost on the card to Hector Lombard, while Beltran defeated Igor Pokrajac. That decision will likely be changed to a no-contest.
