The World Series of Fighting (WSOF) has decided to follow in the footsteps of the UFC and hand out bonuses. Fighters from the debut show are included and the promotion announced who received what honor. The amount awarded to each fighter was not disclosed.
Anthony Johnson earned Knockout of the Night for his one punch win over D.J. Linderman. Gesias Cavalcante took Submission of the Night for his achilles lock on T.J. O’Brien.
Performance of the Night was given to two fighters who competed in separate fights. Marlon Moraes got the first one for upsetting former WEC champion Miguel Torres via split decision and Tyrone Spong was handed the other one. Spong made his MMA debut, knocking out Travis Bartlett in the first round.
WSOF 1 took place November 3 from the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. It aired on the NBC Sports Network as a onetime deal.
WSOF president Ray Sefo plans to continue the bonus system for future shows. An announcement is expected to be made in a few weeks about the next show, which is rumored for early this year. That announcement is believed to reveal the venue and fighters that will appear.
