Pat Healy Believes He Must Win His Final Strikeforce Fight To Earn A UFC Spot

Pat Healy’s (28-16) next fight might be the biggest of his career. With no direct confirmation from the UFC that he will join the promotion once Strikeforce concludes later in the week, Healy knows he must win.

“I think it’s really a must win for me,” said Healy to MMA Weekly. “I think my future kind of relies on it.”

Healy said that the UFC has already promised the last four names he fought a contract. If that is true, that means the UFC will bring Mizuto Hirota, Caros Fodor, Maximo Blanco and Eric Wisely over to their promotion. The UFC has not confirmed those signings.

For 2013, Healy’s goal is to land a spot in the top 10 of the lightweights in the world.

It will be Healy vs. Kurt Holobaugh (8-0) at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine. The two will be the closing preliminary fight. That show takes place January 12 from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, OK.

“I plan on being in the UFC after this fight and I’m happy to start on the bottom and work my way up if necessary,” said Healy.
