Showtime Plans To Stay In MMA Following Final Strikeforce Card

Showtime executive vice president Stephen Espinoza confirmed with that the network is looking to broadcasting a new MMA promotion. Strikeforce, which has aired for three years on Showtime, will no longer be running following Saturday’s Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine event.

“We had the option of moving forward (with Strikeforce). We decided not to exercise that option,” Espinoza said. “We are actively looking for other opportunities. We are definitely looking for the next relationship in the MMA space.”

Showtime cancelled two events scheduled for late 2012 with Strikeforce after championship matches were nixed due to injuries. Shark Fights, Legacy Fighting Championship, Invicta FC and Xtreme Fighting Championships are all rumored to be possible promotions to air on Showtime in the near future.
